Why does my ingrown toenail keep coming back?
Repeated pain at the same nail edge is a reason to review the underlying problem rather than keep cutting the corner yourself. Nail shape, trimming and pressure from footwear can all be relevant.
What information helps at an appointment?
It can be frustrating when the same edge hurts again. Tell us about previous care, discharge, swelling, injuries and footwear. Mention diabetes or circulation concerns and bring relevant records.
Does recurrence mean I need the whole nail removed?
Not necessarily. Partial removal addresses one edge; total removal treats the whole nail. Ask why an approach is suggested. Routine care may remain suitable.
What should I clarify before a procedure?
You can ask about anaesthetic, nail-matrix treatment, recurrence, infection, appearance and dressings. We’ll discuss review and individual advice around your work, shoes and activity.
How do I take the next step?
You can book while uncertain about surgery. Worsening symptoms need advice; fever, spreading redness or feeling unwell warrant prompt medical assessment.
Has the same nail edge become sore again?
Bring details of previous treatment or procedures.
