Customised Orthotics Foot pain, whether due to injury or a disease or condition is what determines the type of foot orthotics designed for an individual patient. The removable shoe inserts are made by taking an impression of the foot using a 3D representation (scan or mould) of an individual's foot, and then making adjustments, if necessary. Additions are added in the production of the device and offer more control for the foot in those that have significant malalignments in comparison to the prefabricated device. |
Prefabricated Orthotics
Prefabricated orthotics are a functional device which is available in a collection of generic sizes, pre-made to an average shape and size and chosen on a best-fit basis. They are usually required for patients that have a relatively normal foot function, with no or little deformity. They can also come with additions to customise the device for an individual but offer little extra control for the foot. Though they can be adjusted to suit the individual better, they are not custom made. Your Podiatrist will let you know if this is an option for you. Generally speaking, they do not last as long as custom orthotics. |
